Vanvalley Farm
Vanvalley Farm was started by Herman and Ida vanBoven in 1960. Ben joined their family in 1961 and is the third of their seven children raised on the farm. He and his wife Margie purchased the farm and dairy cows from his parents in 1993, and raised four kids on the farm including Matt, who is now a co-owner along with his wife Darbi.They started Cowichan Milk Company (our milk processing & delivery business) in 2019 on Vanvalley Farm.
Ben is the farm's primary herdsman, and he cares for our cows throughout their lives including finetuning their diets, learning their habits and personal preferences, treating minor health issues, and storing an impressive amount of information about each cow's lineage in his head. Our Holstein cows are lean in fat, raised on a grass-based diet, and are treated respectfully. Our local butcher is fully licensed through VIHA and CIFA.
